My kids REALLY want to play the Sims 2 Castaways. So, me being the obliging mom that I am, tried to install it on my Dell (which has become "their" computer) for them.
The DVD drive in my Dell didn't appear to recognize the disc, because the auto-run didn't start and when I would actually browse the drive, it would say, "Please insert a disc into drive E:\"
I figured it was the drive.
So, I bought a brand new external DVD drive and tried that. It appeared to work... the installation went all the way to 98%, and then it came up with an error that said it couldn't copy some kind of troubleshooting file. My only choices were to try again or cancel. I tried again several times, but it didn't work. So, I cancelled the installation, thinking I would try to install it again.
Now it won't recognize the disc AGAIN. In the new DVD drive!
It's crazy. I can't understand why it won't install on the damn computer. It meets and exceeds all the specs... it's not that old!
I would just download another copy from the freaking site except that computer has dial-up internet and I wouldn't even want to THINK about how long it would take!
Any ideas? What's causing this? Is this what that Secur-rom does? If it doesn't like your computer or something it just "shuts down" the disc? And if so, is there any way to revive the disc again?
