Generation Four: Hope: Part Three
Warnings: partial nudity, implied sexual activity
“Well?” Ripp Grunt asked quietly, standing in the doorway, his arms folded. “Can I come in?”
“S... sure.” Hope stammered, her body trembling at his nearness. “Come in.” She stood aside for him to enter the house, and he brushed against her as he walked past. It was an innocent movement, no different than a jostling received at a crowded supermarket, but the shockwaves it caused to go through Hope’s body sent her reeling.
“Ripp, I...” she gulped as she closed the door. “I… I thought you were still in college,” she said lamely.
“I graduated,” Ripp said, frowning. “Unlike someone else I know.”
Hope could not meet his eyes. “I’m sorry, Ripp.” she whispered. “I should have told you that I was going to get married, but I just… ” She couldn’t finish.
“I think you know what would have happened if you did,” Ripp said softly, and Hope looked up at him with a question in her eyes.
“What--” she began, but Ripp stopped her.
“I would never have let you go through with it.” Ripp said, then he took a step forward and closed the distance between them. Hope’s heart hammered wildly in her chest at his nearness, and her nostrils flared as pheromones filled the air. She was surprised she was still able to stand upright, as much as her legs were trembling.
Ripp held her by the upper arms and pulled her even closer to him, leaning down and whispering into her ear, “Never, Hope...” He trailed his lips down from her ear and gently kissed her neck below her jaw, then trailed kisses down along her neck to her shoulder. “Never let you go through with it. God, Hope,” he breathed, “I’d never let you belong to anyone else.”
“Ripp...” she gasped. “Don’t. Don’t do this.”
“Why not?” He whispered huskily, his lips at her ear again. “It’s what we both want, and you know it.”
“I… I’m married!” Hope protested weakly. “I took vows…”
"Your vows be damned!” Ripp shouted, pushing away from her and beginning to pace back and forth. “Damned, Hope! You should have made those vows to me, and you know it! I don’t know why I wasn’t good enough for you! Did you think I would cheat on you? Did you? Well, I wouldn’t have, Hope! You were all I ever wanted, and by God, I’m going to have you now!”
He crossed the room to her in two strides, pulled her to him roughly, and kissed her as though he couldn’t get enough, an unspoken question mixed with the demand in his actions. He would never force her against her will, but he had to show her... he had to let her know how much he still wanted her!
Hope answered him only with her frenzied response. She could not deny it... she wanted him just as much as he wanted her, if not more.
Without another word, she led him quickly to a spare bedroom and gave herself to him in utter and complete abandon. In spite of the physical pain of lost innocence, she welcomed it… for now she understood what it was like to feel truly as one.
Afterward, Hope lay, exhausted but satiated, in her lover’s arms, tangling her fingers lightly in the hair on his chest. “You were right, you know,” she murmured softly.
Ripp was almost asleep. At the sound of Hope’s voice, he moved slightly and settled her more comfortably against him. “Right about what?”
“That I should have made those vows to you instead of Ben.”
“Well, what are you going to do about that?” Ripp asked pointedly. Now that he knew she still loved him, he wasn’t going to rest until they could be together!
Hope sat up, wrapping a robe around herself. “I can’t do anything about it now, Ripp!” she exclaimed. “I can’t divorce Ben! There’s a prenuptial agreement! I’ll lose everything...”
“Hope, look around you!” Ripp cried, exasperated. “You don’t need anything from him! I don’t understand why you are being so stubborn about this!”
He got out of the bed, stepped into his jeans and angrily pulled them up, not bothering to fasten them. “I love you, Hope!” he cried, “I have since we were teenagers! What we just did together tells me you feel the same way about me, too. Maybe you just need some time to think about it, but Hope, I’m telling you now, I am not going to forget about it. I’m not going to forget about us...”
He noisily flung open the bedroom door and left, carrying his shirt in his hands, his jeans still unbuttoned and hanging loosely around his hips.
He was making no effort whatsoever to hide what they had just done, and even seemed to want to be discovered. Luckily, Ben was sleeping deeply in another bedroom, and had no idea his wife had just betrayed him.
Whether Ben knew it or not, however, Hope did, and she sat in the middle of the bed, still warm from Ripp’s body, sobbing as though her heart would break; not at all sure if her sobs came from guilt over committing adultery, or regret that she couldn’t truly follow her heart.
“Darling, have you even tried seeing a doctor about it?” Hope asked Ben timidly as they cuddled in bed almost three weeks later.
They had just suffered through yet another failed attempt to truly become husband and wife, and Hope was feeling extremely frustrated. “They have so many ways to help these days. There's medications, and implants, and... ”
“It’s not a problem most men want to discuss.” Ben said shortly, letting go of Hope and getting out of the bed.
He sighed. “When I was younger, I could have given a stallion in stud a run for his money. Now, however…” He shook his head wearily.
“Well, Ben, you aren’t that young any more,” Hope said sensibly, hugging her knees to her chest and laying her head down on them. Somehow, I have to convince him to get treatment... and soon! But how... how to do it without him suspecting something?
Hope had wanted Ben to see a doctor about his impotence since the first day of their marriage, but recently, the issue had become more urgent than ever.
The nausea and fatigue Hope had been experiencing over the last week wasn’t because of food poisoning as she had first thought; she was pregnant, and there was only one possibility as to who the father was, since Hope had only known one lover in her entire life: Ripp Grunt.
Looking at the two bright pink lines on the pregnancy test, Hope had felt a complicated mixture of disbelief, happiness, shock, guilt, and fear.
So, her affair with Ripp had produced a child.
Hope was pregnant at last, but her elderly husband would certainly know he wasn’t the father unless somehow they were able to have intercourse at least once!
Hope had stared at the pregnancy test a few moments before quickly bending it in half and breaking it into bits, then wadding the pieces up into a mass of tissue and stuffing it in the wastebin. It would not do for Ben to find it, oh no... not yet. First he had to do something about his impotency in order to be able to make love to her, and there was no time to lose!
Hope looked at her husband imploringly and tried again. “Ben, it’s nothing to be ashamed of, you know.”
Ben turned and looked at her, frowning. “So I’m supposed to go to some quack and tell him I can’t satisfy my horny young piece of a wife, is that it?”
“No, Ben!” Hope sighed. She was getting exasperated now. Aside from the need to be able to make love with Ben to explain her pregnancy, she had physical needs, too, just like any other woman. She would think he would be considerate enough to try to get some help. If not for himself, then for her!
Of course, I didn’t have any problem fulfilling those needs three weeks ago.
Unbidden, thoughts of her encounter with Ripp filled Hope’s head and she felt her body automatically respond. Stop thinking about Ripp, she commanded herself sternly. Forget him. You’ve made your bed and you have to lie in it. You’ll just have to put Ripp out of your mind, forever. Forget him, forget he’s the father of this baby, and forget what could have been...
Yet she couldn’t.
It was Ripp Grunt’s child in her womb, and the most amazing experience in her life had put it there. How in the world was she supposed to forget that?
